Mini Easter Egg Topiary Tree Place Settings

Hello, friends!  Thank you so much for coming to visit my blog!  In just a couple of weeks, it will be Easter, such a wonderful holiday!

As I began planning my tablescape this year, I wanted to do something completely fun and whimsical, which is a departure from my table for last year's Easter celebration.  Today's post will feature how to make Easter-themed topiary trees.  These may be used as décor, or as name-place settings.  I hope you enjoy. 

You will need:

Mini foam eggs

Spanish moss

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Pre-made mini topiary trees

Begin with pre-made mini topiary trees.  You may view the tutorial in my archives by clicking here.  Follow directions, but you may opt to omit painting the treetops. 

Next, hot-glue mini eggs onto your tree in a spread-out sporadic fashion. 

Once you have glued down your eggs, bead glue in between them.  Add moss.  I used a toothpick to hold down until the glue cooled (also a good way to prevent burns).

Trim away any errant flyaways.  

All set!

O Happy Cross

Hello, friends!  Thank you for visiting my blog!

Sometimes in the rigmarole that is the hurry of the holidays, we can lose sight of what is important.  I know I have been guilty of succumbing to the constant images we are inundated with; consume, consume, consume.....not that I don't enjoy that.  :)  However, Easter Sunday will be here in a short time, so I wanted to create at least one craft reflecting my sentiment of what is truly important about Easter.  I hope you enjoy the post.  

You will need:

Wire hanger or floral arranging wire 

Raffia

Faux spring blooms

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Wire cutters or other crafting tool

Ruler 

Writing utensil 

Wire ribbon or raffia in a different color of your choice

Large paper or poster board

Begin by creating a template on your paper or poster board.  Use the ruler to create a symmetrical cross shape.  I measured a three-inch top by three inch sides and arms, and on the lower portion, I measured ten by three inches.

 

Wire hanger instructions:

Remove the paper from the wire hanger, if needed

Unravel the top portion of the hanger. 

Stretch your wire out. 

Use the image you drew on the poster board as a template.  Mold your wire around the image as accurately as possible to create a form.  

Where the wire is disconnected, reconnect by using your tool.

Floral arranging wire instruction: 

Use the image you made as a template.  Mold your wire around the cross shape. The floral arranging wire is incredibly pliable and easy to mold. Use your cutting tool to trim excess, allowing a tiny bit of overlap. 

On the top of your cross, affix a small bit of raffia to create a hanger.  Create a loop. Overlap the raffia onto itself, and glue down with your hot glue gun. 

Make a loop and repeat. 

Next, bead a small amount of glue onto the form.  Wrap and glue, wrap and glue the raffia around the cross outline, and allow to cool.  

Where your cross is open (and there is overlap), glue together and wrap with raffia.  

Your form outline should now be completely covered. 

Now, wrap raffia completely around the entire form until it is completely covered, and repeat the same step at the end.  Wrap and glue, wrap and glue the raffia onto itself. Allow to cool. My desire was to create arustic cross, so perfection is not necessary. 

Once cool, glue your florals onto the front of your cross, and tie a raffia ribbon around the whole form.  All complete!  Here she is, hanging on my cabinet. This is an easy and extraordinarily inexpensive craft you may use as home décor, as a door hanger, a fun craft for children, or as gifts for friends.

A Tisket, A Tasket....Spring Flowers in a Basket

Hello, dear friends!  Thank you for taking the time to stop by! 

Well....it has finally happened!  On a recent excursion to my two of my fave home improvement haunts, Lowe's and Home Depot, I found that they have brought out the perennials and annuals....at last!  I love fresh flowers, and even strolling through those aisles which are rich with the aroma of honeysuckle and jasmine brings me joy.  This post is a simple yet lovely way to display Spring florals....I hope you enjoy.

You will need:

A small basket

White paint

Spring blooms, real or faux

I began by whitewashing a simple inexpensive Easter basket.

Because the basket will be full, it was not necessary to paint the inside.  I also used a very gentle hand...it is ok to allow some of the basket to show through, to me it gives the basket a charming weathered appearance.

Remove the handle. 

If fresh florals are not available to you in your neck of the woods or you want to reuse this year after year:

Use a glue gun to bead glue onto the rim of your basket. Add greenery. 

Once the entire rim of the basket is covered in foliage, add your florals. Nothing says Spring to me like pastel colored blooms, and here I've used faux peonies. 

If fabulously fresh is your preference, place a small flower arranging foam block into the basket.

 Add blooms.  Aren't these gorgeous!!?

I like the idea of adding florals at an angle for a basket arrangement, so it appears as though the flowers are "spilling" out of the sides of the basket.

DIY Pastel Victorian Tea Sachets

Hello, friends!!  Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and visit my blog!

I am a lover of antique lace, and in one of my previous posts, I discussed how to wash lace in coffee or tea to create your own antique lace.  However, with Easter forthcoming, I though it may be fun to create something completely kitschy and fun, so in this post, we will create sachets, this time in fun colors indicative of the Spring season.  

You will need:

Lace doilies

Food coloring

One bowl for each color you are creating

Tea bags

Hemp thread

Ribbon

Small cameos

To make a pastel colored lace doily, drip a minimal amount of food color into your bowl. If you use too much color, the doilies will come out dark.

Wash (allow to soak) in the color for approximately twenty minutes, or until you achieve the desired color.  I wanted very light pastel colors, so I washed my doilies approximately five minutes.

Pat dry.

 Lay on a paper towel and allow to dry completely. Here are my lavender, pink, and baby blue doilies, sweet, no?

When your doily is completely dry, place an assorted tea bag right into the center.  I chose two of my favorites, Earl Grey and English Breakfast by Bentley.

Tie with a bit of hemp thread.  Trim.  Set aside.

Next, dismantle the cameo earring (99¢ per pair at the 99¢ store) by removing its hook. 

Tie down your ribbon onto the sachet. 

Right before you tie your bow, thread your ribbon through the hole in the cameo, and tie onto your sachet. 

All finished!!

*****Please note:  If these sachets are intended as gifts, use the hemp thread.  If you'd like to use them for a tea party, I'd suggest omitting the hemp for easier access to the tea.
