Simple Hot Cocoa Wreaths

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to pop in a few moments.  Today I am sharing the tutorial of how I made my door wreaths in preparation for my 2024 Christmas décor.  I hope you enjoy the post!

I made two of these wreaths for my double doors.  To make these you will need the following:

Two wreath forms

Two rolls of red wreath mesh

Four rolls of white wreath mesh

Wired white ribbon

Two thin wood rounds

One fuzzy cloth or car towel

Two precut wooden snowflakes

White paint

Red cloth or similar (I used stockings)

One long elastic or shoelace

All items listed were purchased at The Dollar Tree.

You will also need a seam ripper, scissors, a glue gun, and glue sticks.

I began by drawing a rough outline of a cup of cocoa onto the wooden forms.  Cut the form out.

Once the first form was cut out, I used it as a template to cut out the second form.

I used a seam ripper to dismantle one of the stockings.

Once dismantled, I glued the fabric onto the form.

Using a pen, I traced the top of the form (the part that emulates whipped cream) onto the fuzzy fabric,

cut it out, and glued it onto the form.

Next, I glued a piece of fabric around the 'mug' handle.   I also folded a small strip of fabric and glued it across the top of the mug, creating a 'lip.'

I spray painted the snowflakes white and allowed for drying time before I hot-glued them onto the front of each mug.

Finally, I added mesh to the wreath forms.  I wanted a contrast, so I added two rolls of white the bottom of each form and one roll of red on the top.  I glued a bit of shoelace to the back of the mug form, creating a loop, then weaving it through the top of the wreath, back down, and gluing in place.  This attaches the mug to the wreath.  Finally, I topped each completed wreath with a white ribbon.

Viral Hot Cocoa Mug Décor Dupes

Hello, all and thank you for stopping by!  For Christmas this year, I decorated my house with a hot cocoa theme.  The likely impetus for this idea was when I stumbled across an adorable tutorial on TikTok of how to make extra-large hot cocoa cup decorations for Christmas.

These are super cute and super simple to make.  Today, I will show you how I made mine.  I hope you enjoy the post!  I made two to be placed outdoors near my double doors.  To make them, I used the following:

Two rounded containers.  I used planters from Walmart.

Foam pipe insulation. Most folks use pool noodles, but I couldn't find any inexpensively, likely because it is off-season.  Not only did it cost less, but I also I found that the insulation foam was much more pliable than the noodles.  The insulation foam tubing came from Lowe's.

Spray paint color of your choice.  I made sure to purchase a paint that adheres to plastic, and one that also acts a primer so that there would be no need to primer the planters.  You will also need spray insulation foam.  Both of these items were also purchased at Lowe's.

I also used some cardboard, some decorative candy canes, and some precut wooden snowflakes.

The candy cane décor came from Family Dollar and the wooden snowflakes were from The Dollar Tree.  You will also need a heavy-duty glue gun and glue sticks.  Let's craft!!

The first thing I did was cut the insulation tubing to size and hot glue it into place creating a handle.  Be sure to use an industrial strength hot glue gun and hold each piece in place until it is cool to ensure it will remain in place.

Next, I spray painted the whole cup.

There was no need to paint the inside of the structure, because we will be building a platform over the top of the whole cup.

Once the cups were completely dry and painted (I believe it took 3 coats total, allowing for dry time between each coat), I used the outline from the cardboard I used to prevent seepage as a template to cut out tops for each 'cup.' 

I built a platform on the cup using two rounds of cardboard for each cup.  Hot glue one round onto the rim of the cup, and then glue the second round onto the first one.  Doubling up the cardboard made it more sturdy, and it will be able to withstand the weight of the spray insulation foam.

Separate the candy canes.

Once the cardboard was glued, I used a pencil to poke a hole where I would be placing the separated candy canes.

Spray the insulation foam onto the top of the cardboard, then gently push the candy cane into the hole at an angle.  Allow time to dry completely.

Finally, glue a snowflake onto the front of the cup.  Keep in mind, the snowflakes were painted white and I allowed for dry time prior to adding them.
